CALL FOR PAPERS: Mid-Winter Meeting of the Canadian Law and Society Association

A Call for Papers has been issued for the Mid-Winter Meeting of the Canadian Law and Society Association:

The Canadian Law and Society Association’s (CLSA’s) Mid-Winter meeting will take place at the University of Ottawa on January 27th and 28th, 2012 and will be co-hosted by the Justice Studies and Research Laboratory at the University of Ottawa. The mid-winter meeting provides an opportunity for members to get together to discuss professional and intellectual issues in a small, informal context. All presentations will be held on Friday, January 27th, 2012 and the Board meeting will be on Saturday, January 28th, 2012. (Board members are asked to attend since this is the main Board meeting of the year.)

Please confirm your attendance with Marie-Ève Sylvestre (marie-eve.sylvestre@uottawa.ca) or Dominique Robert (dominque.robert@uottawa.ca) by December 15th, 2011. Please contact Maritza Felices-Luna (maritza.felices.luna@uottawa.ca) for presentation submissions and details regarding the program.

We invite presentations relating to any ongoing socio-legal research, although we are particularly interested in presentations dealing with issues of social justice in the context of the current sociopolitical-economic climate. This includes papers that examine the federal government’s current law-and-order campaign from a variety of perspectives, such as those that discuss public policy with respect to the recent omnibus crime bill or that highlight Canada’s social justice community as it works to resist this agenda. Graduate students are also encouraged to participate and present; so please pass on the invitation to relevant graduate programs.

Please indicate as soon as possible, and no later than December 15th, 2011, if you are interested in presenting in some manner in one of the sessions on Friday, January 27th, 2012. Please indicate a working title for a proposed presentation (though changes in the title at the start of your presentation are encouraged as per long traditions of the occasion’s informality) or any creative idea, and we will develop a research program for the Friday. Kindly note that you will need to have an up-to-date membership on file before you will be included in the program, so please ensure you have registered as a member through http://www.acds-clsa.org

More details to follow later with full schedule.
